Chris, Simon & the team

A brief insight...
Married to Dani(ela) with one son (Sam), Simon resides in Austria, just outside Saalbach Hinterglemm where skiing and travel has played a huge part in his life. Starting as a seasonnaire in 1994 as a waiter/cleaner in an Austrian hotel, with some hard work and lots of fun along the way became director and board member of one of the largest UK's school tour operators and served on the committee of the School Travel Forum (STF). Simon is a proud Co-Founder and Director of True North.

I'm going to make this short and hope that you will get to know me and the team more through our interactions. For years I've been asking myself the same questions, what do people want? and what do people value?, and my answer is to keep asking these two questions, act, try new things, and then repeat - this is what I find fascinating. Sam often asks me what I do for a living, which is nice and I hope he gets to see a lot more of what I do over the years, but my answer is "I don't do anything, but WE make skiing memories", this works for a seven year old and the expression on his face is priceless, naturally the hidden message is slightly missed, but Sam's imagination and questions make up for this as he interacts and shares the vision in his mind.
I'm a big believer in treating others the way I like to be treated myself, it has done me well so far, share some imagination and add great service and that is what True North is all about. Progress and access is close to my heart and you will see from our partners that this is very much an underlying theme at True North, mix that with fun, adrenaline, friends & colleagues on an amazing alpine backdrop and it makes for an intoxicating cocktail. We have used the word unprecedented a lot of late, and there is no better word to describe the current situation, but I'm positive that I will be able to edit out this section of this page soon, but until then we will continue to ask questions and listen to feedback so we act appropriately and in your best interests. For many, skiing will have been on hold for 2021, so I hope we can lighten your day by bringing a small part of the mountains to you over the coming months...
Stay safe, Simon

Chris lives in East Sussex with Jodie, baby Jack and Nala the cocker spaniel. He qualified as a watersports instructor in 1995 and spent several Summers teaching children and adults to sail, windsurf and powerboat in France, Greece, Turkey and Australia. He spent 8 years organising school watersports trips to France before disappearing into the corporate wilderness for a while. He joined one of the largest UK school tour operators in 2015 where he led the sales operation for 5 and ½ years. He is thrilled to be working with Simon as the Co Founder and second Director of True North.

The Summer of 1995 had a pretty profound effect on my life. I had taken a gap year to teach watersports before starting a degree in Product Design as I thought that’s what I wanted to do. I set off to South West France in the March of that year, helped set up the centre and then stayed out there until the end of September when my Uni course started. Over the Summer I taught hundreds of children and adults and I absolutely loved everything about the job and lifestyle. It instilled in me a love for travel and different cultures, more outdoor sports from surfing the Atlantic coast to skiing in the Pyrenees. However, the bit that stuck with me above all else was the immense satisfaction I took from seeing young people develop and grow over the course of their week with us. Seeing them arrive on the first day unsure and nervous and watch as over the week their confidence grew, they tried new activities, made new friends and seemed to mature in front of my eyes.

I haven’t found this level of work satisfaction anywhere else and am still just as passionate about giving young people opportunities they wouldn’t otherwise get 25 years later. When I returned to School Travel in 2015 it felt like I was home again and I knew this is where I wanted to stay.

Over the years I have been involved in organising hundreds, if not thousands of group trips and I think I have a good understanding of what is needed to plan and execute a safe and well organised experience. I am extremely proud and excited to be working with Simon again at True North. I firmly believe we have the experience and passion to shake up the group travel market and do things in a new and innovative way.
I look forward to meeting you, Chris
